Throwback Thursday

This post isn't really going to be sharing pictures like I have been. It's going to be throwing back to a lot of things that have happened over the last 20 or so years.

First is a playlist on youtube of some 90s music. Something to listen to while you read the rest of this post, hehe

Nest is a lot of events that changed the face of the world as we know it.

First is the Oklahoma City Bombing. This one is close to me now since I live in this beautiful city. I lived in Arkansas when it happened though. I was in elementary school, and it shook the foundation of the world as I knew it. I'd never really thought about people doing such horrible things in such a way before.  But this city is strong, and we've moved past it in ways that I'm sure nobody ever thought it would.

I am so thankful that the city has grown as much as it has, even since we've moved here. Some of my favorite places wouldn't have existed if not for the oklahoma city bombing.  The memorial is BEAUTIFUL!

It is seriously so peaceful there. And BEAUTIFUL. I have my own pictures, but those are ones from online.  Seriously, if you are ever in the OKC area, you need to visit it!  Just do it!

Next is 9-11. The year the world stood still.  I remember waking up to a phone call from my best friend telling me to turn on the TV, and I remember that when I did it was right as the second plane hit!  It was scary, and emotional, and crazy. My family and I had visited there. I had seen it up close, and to see that happen sent chills down my spine.  I'm so thankful for my friend, cause she came over, and we spent the day with her distracting me - eating junk food, watching crappy movies, and sitting around and talking. I remember seeing that they had collapsed, and remember the pang that went through me because I KNEW that so many had just lost their lives.  Even now it brings tears to my eyes to think about it.  I hope to be able to visit the memorial someday, hopefully with my kids. I want them to see it, and to know that people are stronger than all the bad things that happen to them.

And the memorial they made for it

It is so beautiful!  I can't wait to get to see it in person

Next is the May 3, 1999 tornado that hit the Oklahoma city metro

It was SO HUGE!  I lived in Arkansas at the time, and I remember watching the videos of it freaking out because of how bad it was.  I knew people up here, and the thought of how close it got to them freaked me out.  It was insane!

And it is such a good example of how crazy the weather can get up here.  We've come within a mile of some pretty huge tornadoes since we've lived up here.  One was destroying moore, and it was so close that we could HEAR it in our apartment.  It was so scary. And it's formed an irrational fear of tornadoes and thunderstorms in my youngest.  It's crazy.

Looking at the pictures, watching the video - both just freak me out, because it could happen again at the drop of a hat.

My oldest was supposed to have her Honor Choir Festival performance tonight, but they canceled it because of the fear of more happening, that's how intense it is to live in Oklahoma, lol.

All of this shows just how strong that we are as a human race, because even through it all we came out the other side stronger and better for it.  We mourn, and we move on.

And that says a LOT about human nature.

Anyway, that's my throwback post for today. Sorry it has taken a bit of a dark twist, but that's what I was thinking about after so many tornadoes came through here yesterday.

Thanks for reading
